Limited Edition Mail Order Release 1995 Retired. These Great Limited Edition Pez "Regulars" are copies of the original Pez dispensers released in the 1940's. Pez candy originated with a peppermint flavor, and PEZ is derived from the German word for Peppermint, or PheffErminZ, taking the first, middle, and last letters to form the word PEZ. These original Pez dispensers look like cigarette lighters, and Pez was originally created as an alternative to smoking. Instead of "lighting up," you would pop a peppermint Pez in your mouth! Pez released these retro regulars in 1995 via their website. They were also scarcely released for sale to the public, but the peppermint flavor and regular dispenser never took off at retail.
